Couple Therapy

How Does Couple Therapy Work?

Couple therapy occurs when two people in a relationship seek professional assistance to improve their relationship. As the therapist, I take an objective approach to learning about and understanding both people’s perspective about the situation.

After we have a thorough understanding of the difficulties within the relationship, we work together to alter patterns and behaviors. I then provide people with techniques to improve their ability to communicate with each other.

Who Seeks Couple Therapy?

· People who have difficulties (arguments, constant bickering, family troubles, etc.) in their relationships.

· People who are comfortable in their relationship but want to improve their communication with each other.

· People who are considering ending their relationships

Will Couple Therapy “fix” my relationship?

Couple therapy will not “fix” your relationship. It can, however, improve your ability to communicate with your partner and to articulate your needs and goals for the relationship. Oftentimes, people report that their relationship improves as a result of Couple therapy.

Sometimes through Couple therapy people decide to end their relationship. They may recognize that they have different needs and goals. If this is the case, therapy can assist the couple in separating in the least harmful and destructive way.
